FRENCH RULE, 1808-1814
During the brief period of their rule of the region (1808-1814), the French will be remembered for the construction of a modern road on the site of the old Communal one, the so-called Napoleon Road. A new bridge was built over the River Ljuta as part of those works in 1809. The Napoleon Road additionally contributed to the importance of the mills and fulling mills in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
