OVERHAUL OF THE MILL
A wooden latch was used to start and stop the mill, preventing or allowing the water to reach the wheel. The principle of work of the latch differed depending on the system of water flow, whether running through gutters or stone pipes.
In order to make everything function perfectly, the mill needed to be chiselled after a certain number of hours of work. Hard iron tools were used for chiselling the mills – hammers and chisles. Before chiselling, the mill needed to be turned upside down and fixed to the floor by using levers and handspikes.
After rolling and chiselling, the millstone was rotated and placed back in its place with the same tools.
